This is an original watercolor painting of a cell in the process of dividing. This particular point of the process is called telophase. The cell is just on the point of becoming two.
The painting is done with a mixed wet-in-wet technique. I put down the background, let it dry, and then came back and painted the sphere, adding the details while the paint was still wet so they would bleed naturally.
Painted on extra heavy (300 lb) Arches cold press watercolor paper with Winsor & Newton watercolors.
Approximately 5×5 inches in a white 8×8 mat.
