What exactly do I get with my purchase?

You get:

One 2″×4″ polyester-twill p8tch with your unique QRcode on it. The design is permanently (waterproof-ly, washing-machine-proof-ly) bonded to the fabric using dye sublimation. Velcro “hook” side fabric is stitched to the back.
Two 2″×4″rectangles of Velcro “loop” fabric, one black and one white. You sew these on your jacket, your backpack, or your laptop sleeve.
The passphrase unique to your p8tch, allowing you to control where the QRcode goes.
Two .png files of your QRcode, one at 330px square , and one at 1650px square (links go to the images for the sample p8tch). You can make your own craft projects using those images and the magical p8tch redirect mojo.

Will my phone be able to scan a QRcode? Can I try it first?

Yes, you can! I have a sample QRcode with a publicly-published passkey that you can play with over on the website at http://www.p8tch.com.

You can try using the passkey to change the redirect target, then scanning the QRcode with your phone, and see how your phone handles the link. iPhones will open just about anything (URLs, google maps, YouTube videos), and other phones’ handlers vary.

Does my p8tch depend on the p8t.ch redirect server to work?

Yes, it does. If the p8t.ch server is hacked, or if I get hit by a beer truck and stop paying the ISP bills, your p8tch’s redirect function will stop working. But I’m committed to keeping it up. For what it’s worth, I’ve been blogging since 2000, and I’m still here.

Can I get a tattoo of the p8tch QRcode on my body?

(I have been asked this question twice!)

Please, please, PLEASE do not get the p8tch QRcode tattooed on your body. For one thing, I don’t want the responsibility of powering your pectoral code for the next ninety years — if the p8t.ch server goes down, the redirect will stop working.

More importantly, the temptation to use my sysadmin powers to Rick-roll (or goat-roll, or rainbow-roll) your tramp stamp would be well-nigh IRRESISTIBLE. Please do not subject me to that kind of temptation. Your p8tch is safe with me, but your butt cheek is not.
